TPS in brief

TPS Turku, or TPS as it is more commonly known, was founded in 1922 and is today the best team sports club in Finland. For decades the three magical letters and the black and white club colours have symbolized football and ice hockey played at the international top level.

FC TPS Turku has won the Finnish Championship 8 times since 1922. The latest was in 1975, but even though it it’s been awhile, TPS has done well in recent years too, placing as 3rd in 1996, 2007, 2009 and 2010. TPS won the Finnish Cup in 1991, 1994 and 2010, and also played in the Finnish Cup final in 1996, 1997 and 2005. FC TPS Turku is also known for it’s excellent junior work. Several TPS players have made it to the international fields, for example Peter Enckelman who plays for Cardiff and Kasper Hämäläinen who's name can be found from the roster of Djurgården IF. Most recently Niklas Moisander has risen to fame in the ranks of AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch Premier League.

After season 2000 TPS lost it's place in Finland's Premier League and played for two seasons in the 1st Division. They aimed to get back up to the Premier League with determination and it took them two seasons to complete the mission. Since season 2003 TPS has again played in the Finland’s Premier League, Veikkausliiga.

Turku, the home city of TPS, is the oldest city in Finland and Finland's gateway to Europe. Turku is a fascinating combination of past and present and it has something to offer visitors interested in history as well as visitors who enjoy modern city-life. The River Aura flows through the city and a unique and truly spectacular archipelago that stretches towards the west giving Turku an enchanting maritime atmosphere.

Turku is also a city of sports and it has witnessed glory and heroism in the past as well as today. In the 1920's Paavo Nurmi made Turku known throughout the world. He won the incredible amount of 9 Olympic medals during his career as a long-distance runner and is well known all over the world as one of the best athletes ever.
